Alas here’s part two of the tutorial on wedding albums. If you haven’t already, please check out part one here before viewing this video. In this one, we discuss the difference between a digital versus a matted album, why album prices tend to be the way they are, and finally, what questions you might want to ask your photographer at your consultation when it comes to albums.

Couples that want to get an album and have already budgeted for one, are on the fence, or the pricing discourages them. But hopefully these videos will shed some light on why photographers price quality albums the way they do. A lot more than taking the photos and printing them goes into creating an album.
The photographer must retouch the images and carefully design the layout to the likings of the bride and groom. And if the couple is looking for a large (i.e. 12×12”, 11×14”, or 14×10”) album, genuine leather cover, and perhaps 40-50 sides, it’s going to cost quite a few pennies just to print and bind the book. Factor in the photographer’s skill, experience, time, not to mention they would like to make a profit, and you might see why albums are priced the way they are.

Consider asking questions like the following when discussing albums with your photographer:
1. What types of albums do you offer and in what sizes?
2. How much does it cost to upgrade the size and number of pages?
3. Do we get to select the images and can we change our mind once we see the initial design?
4. How many revisions do we get? How long does it take to see the first version of the design?
5. How long does it to get the album in my hands?
6. Do you offer parent albums, and if so, are there discounts for those?
I hope this helps demystify the album part of photography a tad bit :). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
